Trying to catch up with the Box. I just returned from a visit to Dixon, NM...I like to think I am an honorary New Mexican..for at least one week of the year! Anyway, my fab friend of many years, Betsy, lives there and this visit the OB Box got to go.
Before that, a couple of months ago we went to to Roanoke for Rich's graduation gathering. I had never been and I have to say, it was quite enjoyable. I got to meet his family, and celebrate a huge accomplishment in his life. We were only there a couple of days, but had a great time.
We even snapped a pic in T Jefferson's bedroom!

San Fran
Our excursion to CA last October started in Venice Beach and included a trip up the coast to San Francisco...I love the view from one of the best parks I have been to!

Blanche
Our newest one is coming out of her shell more and more. I have gotten her interested in playing gnaw...Dave is NP because he doesn't like to play. She has eye issues, just like Max and they both will have to have eye drops for the rest of their lives. Great. Blanche has a special treat that we made just for her...with blueberries and bananas. Everyone seems to like them..so far. I am getting better at frosting cupcakes, the last batch was for a doggy BD party, so I made peanut butter cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and popcorn sprinkles. I need to send some with Dave since his clientele would be more into them than the farmer's market...maybe little mini-muffins.

Oscar
It happened much sooner than we thought. One day my little buddy was being all wriggly after a bath and two days later he was gone. Cancer and we didn't even know it. I hope that he wasn't in pain but of course with pets it is hard to tell. He seemed happy though. He was the last of the 4, only boy and by far the sweetest, no offence to my ladies but fact is fact!
I hear that 10 and a half years is a pretty good lifespan for a bulldog, but we were hoping for at least 16! Can't say too much about him at the moment because even though he left us in January it is still too depressing. Another depressing matter....the spaniels returned and this time for good. Seems they needed a new home..imagine..and we were the first and I must say the best choice for them.
We have also taken in a little lady bulldog that we were thinking about fostering while Oscar was still around so he would have a little buddy because as much as he would not admit it...he kinda missed the spaniels. Miss Blanche is Mabel all over again, same personality..pretty weird, but in a good way. And I am happy say that she likes to bake!

The bassets
Just when we were busy cleaning up the house after the spaniels.... not really... the bassets came to stay. Just for a few days and they are related so I know they will eventually find their way home. Oscar is not as taken with them as he was the previous guests, so there is a lot of door closing going on. The bassets are great taste testers though, not like a hound is going to turn down food, but they do seem rather partial to cinnamon snaps!

Spaniel update
I remember a few months ago when I was excited that the Spaniels were only going to be with us a few weeks. That time came and went, the Spaniels went their merry way and all was well. Then...a couple of months later, as in May, they returned and have been with us ever since. From the beginning of their second stay with us, we threw all three of them together and pretty much forced them to like each other. Was really very easy, we should have done it before but who knew, they were supposed to be out of here.
Oscar, Max and Mia have become fairly close, as in they tolerate each other and like to steal each others beds. There is still a little squabble ever so often but not enough to even bother with wandering into the other room to see whats up. I must say that even though the Spaniels started off rather thin, they are now a bit hefty. Dave doesn't think so but it is kind of apparent to most others. I received word that they may actually be leaving for good this time. Maybe on the 20th of this month. I certainly will not be surprised if we have to hang up two extra stockings this year, but you never know. It pains me to no end to say that I just might miss their annoying little faces. I think Oscar will too, even though he would never admit it. I know he will miss their bed! Only time will tell if they will be ringing in the New Year with us or not.
